Compare/Contrast Posting: Whitney Biennial, NYC (Due by 4/21)

Select two artists or two individual works and write a brief comparison. As we have done in other assignments, look for a point(s) of difference or similarity--compare/contrast. You might select one artist (or work) you especially admire, explain why and then select another that you think is not as effective and explain why; these two choices should relate in some manner such as technology, media, aesthetics, or concept/intent.

Presentation Comments (Due when class presentations are completed)

Post a brief (1-2 para.) review/comments on each collaborative presentation.
You might make note of the quality and depth of information provided (did it expand your knowledge of artists/media) and the educational value of the developed "exhibit theme".

Illustrator Exercise 2: Vector Drawing of Raster Image (Due March 29)

Post your Illustrator Exercise 2:
Create a vector drawing (using Live Trace and Live Paint functions and pen tool) from a Photoshop file, photo, or scan of a portrait, yours or someone else's. The scan could be a painting, drawing you created. This is due for Tuesday classes the week we return from Break on March 16, for Monday class the following week on March 22.

Abramovic-Kahlo-Xiuwen Comparison
(posting due week after break, October 20)

Using the resources below and our discussion in class as a beginning, research the works of Marina Abramovic, Frida Kahlo, and Cui Xiuwen and write a summary comparison (of approx. 350-500 words) of these three artists' work as "self-portraits/female portrayals" on your blogsite. This is not to be a retelling of their biographical information; this is to be a creative and critical look at their bodies of work which you will develop into a thoughtful comparison of their uses of the "portrait"--contextual, conceptual, and aesthetic. I am looking for IDEA not REGURGITATION.

Week 6: Illustrator Pen Tool Tracing Exercise

Post your in-class Illustrator exercise...the icon tracing to your blog.
The exercise instructions follow; exercise will begin in class.
• Create a New Document in Illustrator–8.5x11.
• Select Place from the File Menu and select one of the GIF format signage symbols (located in Class folder on Share Drive) in Illustrator.
• Select that layer in Layer Menu and select Template from pull-down menu..
• This turns drawing gray and locks that Layer.
• Begin to trace over the symbol using the pen tool.
• Save your finished file for submittal with your Last Name to Class Share folder: Illustrator Exercise
•Then choose Save for Web/Device in File menu. Select GIF format rather than JPEG. Save and Post on your Blog.

This is due Tues, Feb.23 for Tuesday classes and Mon, March 1 for Monday Class.
